Help in Times of Need

Sheila came to us for food when she found herself out of work. She was able to find temporary work that allowed her to sustain herself for awhile but when the work ran out she came back to us for help with food. Often, the people we help just need to get through a short period of time to get back on their feet. She is so grateful when we help her. She is always saying, “When I get a good job, I am going to remember how the Salvation Army has helped me and my family. Maybe then I can return the favor.”

The Salvation Army of Cortland

The Salvation Army of Cortland aims to meet human needs in our community on three fundamental levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. We happen to be the only food pantry in Cortland County that is open five days a week and strive to make sure that no family in Cortland goes without a daily meal. We also are focused on teaching youth in the community the necessary skills they'll need for their future, including but not limited to: educational, social, musical, and relational.

Food Pantry

The Salvation Army of Cortland currently hosts a daily food pantry; which provides a 9-meal emergency food supply to any individual, couple, or family in need. We also have a Soup Kitchen that runs the last week of each month on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. On top of that, we also provide a monthly Fresh Food Giveaway in which any member of the community can come and pick up various donated fresh foods from the Food Bank of CNY and local grocer donors.

Youth Programs

Throughout the year, we offer various program for youth in Cortland county free of charge. Some of these include: Troop Based Programs (Sunbeams, Boys Adventure Club), Music Lessons (Singing Company), and also free creative arts lessons (drama and dance). The children are always given a meal during the programs, so that the whole person is served. During the summer, our Summer Fun Days program grants low-income youth an opportunity to experience field trips, games, and crafts that they may not otherwise have an opportunity to participate in.

Adult Ministries Programs

Our adult ministries programs, including Women's Ministries (ages 15 & up), League of Mercy, Men's Fellowship (new this Fall 2015!), and Senior Songsters aim to ensure that adults in Cortland county have a place to fellowship and enjoy.

Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS)

A workout group open to the public ages 8 and up.

SAYouth

An afterschool program held from September to May, includes free transportation and a meal provided to all youth in Cortland ages 5-17.
