The Salvation Army of Glens Falls

Every number is a life you touch. Each year in Glens Falls, thanks to our generous donors and volunteers...nearly 500 people with nowhere to lay their head at night get hotel vouchers to see them through a crisis, nearly 1,000 baskets of food are delivered to families in need at Thanksgiving and Christmas, 1,500+ big hearted people volunteer at the Glens Falls Salvation Army, 1,400+ toys and gifts are distributed to families at Christmastime to help make the holiday special, nearly 6,000 hungry people receive groceries and hot meals each year.

Emergency Assistance

Last year, over 7,200 people came to The Salvation Army seeking help. Such help may include groceries (five day’s supply), diapers, formula, assistance with purchase of needed prescriptions, assistance with rent or mortgage, utilities, and heating fuel assistance. Caseworkers are also able to help with emergency lodging, clothing, transportation and other household items. They meet with each client and work with them to develop problem solving plans, and make referrals to other local agencies.

Soup Kitchen

The soup kitchen is open every Tuesday evening when the “Open Door” soup kitchen in Glens Falls is closed. We offer a balanced hot meal which also provides a much needed social and emotional interaction. Last year, 2,600 meals were offered.  Soup kitchen guests are invited to attend Bible study immediately following the dinner.

Food Distribution/Gleaning

Three days a week, we distribute perishable food such as breads, pastries, fruits and vegetables, deli and meat items. Last year, enough food was shared to provide 19,000 meals. Thank you to Hannaford for sharing their surplus with the hungry.

Seasonal Assistance

Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets are provided, as well as toys and clothing for children. Over 3,700 people were able to have brighter holidays due to the generosity of our donors.

Back to School backpacks are also distributed.

League of Mercy

Salvation Army officers, soldiers and volunteers visited over 450 residents at six nursing homes in Warren County last year.
