The Salvation Army of Sayre

We service those that live in Waverly, NY, Sayre, PA & Athens, PA.

Our goal is to serve those in our community without discrimination. To show them the love of Jesus. The verse we choose for our Corps is "1st Samuel 16:7 “The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart.”

Through your generous donations to The Salvation Army, we have had the opportunity to touch the lives of those in need; families struggling to put bread on the table and keep a roof over their heads. Some of the services we provide include rental and utility assistance, food, clothing, personal care items, and furniture. We seek to enable growth and self sufficiency for those who need our assistance. It gives us great joy to express our appreciation to you for your support.

The Valley Dining Hall

Every meal we serve, whether it is our breakfasts or dinners, each meal is healthy and nutritious providing social and emotional engagement. We serve breakfast twice a week and dinner twice a month to help residents stretch their already tight budget.

Food Distribution/Gleaning

We offer bread and baked goods food distribution twice a week on Tuesday and Friday, donated from WalMart and Tops.  On Wednesday and Thursday, we distribute bread and baked goods if still available.

Youth Drop-In Center

The Drop In Center offers both children an evening of fun at The Salvation Army and parents an evening together. For children in grades K-5, each Drop In night has a different theme with dinner, story time, crafts and games.
Women’s Ministries:

Women’s Walking Club

Open to all women in the community, we walk 1-2 miles on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Women’s Breaking Bread Bible Study

As we study the Word of God, we enjoy having lunch together.

Women’s Home League

Women play a vital and dynamic role in home, family life and the community. Home League provides activities for personal development and enrichment based on worship, education, service and fellowship.

Volunteer opportunites

Volunteers are the “army behind the army,” working with Salvation Army officers to help those in need in our community.

Our food pantry, the largest in the Penn York Valley, is always in need of volunteers. Families, school and church groups, along with teams from companies are always needed during the holiday season to ring bells at kettle locations in the community.
