Food Pantry and Mobile Canteen

Last year, over 17,000 meals and snacks were served to the hungry, including a last week of the month soup kitchen in Cohoes.

Albany’s mobile canteen travels out on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays for it's Feeding Program to provide food and spiritual nourishment with prayers to children, teens and adults. Our current route and schedule for these days is: 
4:30pm Corner of Quail Street and Clinton Avenue
4:45pm Corner of Lark Street and Clinton Avenue
5:00pm Lincoln Tower Apartments
5:15pm Mt. Hope Neighborhood Apartments

Emergency Assistance

Helping those with short term emergency assistance, weekdays, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Over the past year, over 17,000 people were given assistance, and over 700 bags of food were distributed. Monthly free food distribution is held from April through October.


Each summer, The Salvation Army provides an overnight camping experience for 84 children at the Army’s Long Point Camp in the Finger Lakes. Amsterdam children also enjoy a week of summer camp too. A Vacation Bible School is held in June at the Corps. We also offer a family night event on fridays for all ages and parental guardians.

Bible Study

We have Prayer Meeting on Tuesdays followed by Bible Study for adults and Bible Bowl Prep for youth.

Seasonal & Services Assistance

Thanksgiving and Christmas Food Baskets are provided as well as over 2,500 toys for children to make Christmas brighter for many families.

We have a Computer Lab and Gym available for public use. Sewing classes and famaily night events are also offered to the local community.

Social Services Casework is available upon request and meeting with a Corps Officer for further instriction.

Social Services - Amsterdam

A Salvation Army caseworker offers social services assistance to Amsterdam residents on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Salvation Army office is located within the Catholic Charities of Fulton and Montgomery Counties building on Kimball Street in Amsterdam. Amsterdam children can spend a week at the Army’s residential camp in the Finger Lakes over the summer. Camp applications can be obtained through The Salvation Army office. Holiday assistance at Christmastime is also available for Amsterdam families.
