Help in Times of Need

Sheila came to us for food when she found herself out of work. She was able to find temporary work that allowed her to sustain herself for awhile but when the work ran out she came back to us for help with food. Often, the people we help just need to get through a short period of time to get back on their feet. She is so grateful when we help her. She is always saying, “When I get a good job, I am going to remember how the Salvation Army has helped me and my family. Maybe then I can return the favor.”

Due to the constantly evolving regulations and guidelines we are receiving from both county and state levels of government, please refer to our Facebook page for the latest updates regarding the operational status of our services or call us at (607) 753-9363.

If you are able, consider making a financial donation to support the needs of others in your community. As always, your donations stay local to meet local neighbors in need!

The Salvation Army of Cortland

The Salvation Army in Cortland is an exciting place to be. At the core of our mission, the aim to meet needs of the people we serve, on three fundamental levels: physical, emotional, and spiritual. We are very proud of our community, and want to continue to be part of its growth and development in the future days ahead.

Sunday Services

We value the ability to share the love of Christ with all those we meet. It is because of our calling to spread the gospel, that we are blessed to welcome anyone in the community to join us on Sunday morning, to participate in our Sunday School classes and church service. We invite everyone to come just as they are and learn more about Jesus, and make some new friends.

Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen

The Salvation Army in Cortland currently hosts a food pantry which is open daily, and this 5 days a week. At our pantry, we provide individuals, couples or families in need with a 9 day emergency food supply. We also recognize the need for many to access a warm meal, and so we maintain a Soup Kitchen that runs every Wednesday, and that is open to all who might want to share in fellowship over food with us.

Youth Programs

The Salvation Army in Cortland is passionate about youth people. Due to this therefore, throughout the year, we offer various programs for youth in Cortland County free of charge. Every child that attends one of our programs is met with love, kindness and respect. We also ensure that each child is given a warm meal during their time with us. Some of youth programs we offer include the following:

Music and More: The children that come to our Music and More program are offered the opportunity to try their hand at a variety of instruments (piano, bucket drums, timbrels) as well as other creative arts (singing, dance, drama, and art).

Sports Night: During this evening the children are introduced to a variety of sporting disciplines that helps them develop their social skills, as well as their personal discipline, and instills in them the importance of communication and team work.

Summer Fun Days: This is our summer day camp that runs the whole month of July. During this time we welcome low-income youth to join us on a daily basis and enjoy the opportunity of experiences a variety of field trips, as well as joining in a multitude of daily activities, games, crafts, that they may not have the opportunity to participate in otherwise. We also provide for children nutritionally and ensure each youth receives breakfast and lunch.

Adult Ministries Programs

Our adult ministry programs are a great time of fellowship for the woman/man looking for the warmth of being part of a group of caring and fun loving friends. We enjoy the ability to offer programs targeted to women alone (Women’s’ Ministries), men alone (Men’s Ministries), as well as a combined adult fellowship, where we play pool, go out on trips, eat together and experience the joys of relationship.
