The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services - Severe Weather Relief Blog Post Header Image

Since Saturday, July, 1, seven separate flash flooding events and three tornadoes have struck across 20 counties in New York State.

The Salvation Army’s Emergency Disaster Services (EDS) has been providing food, hydration, immediate financial assistance and spiritual care to survivors and first responders from Buffalo to Hoosick Falls, from Massena to Nichols.

Over the last month, canteens (mobile feeding units) from Oneonta, Sidney, Buffalo, Canandaigua and Rochester have served over 20,000 survivors and first responders and dedicated 1,470 hours of volunteer service to assist impacted communities.

On the afternoon of July 2nd, our team of volunteers and canteen from Sidney served over 1,200 meals in Whitesboro.

We are thankful for the volunteers and staff that have assisted in these relief efforts, many traveling hours from home to help support and supplement local volunteers that themselves were also impacted by the severe weather.

Whether the crisis is a small personal crisis or a large-scale disaster, The Salvation Army is there helping people when they are most vulnerable. We were serving in the community before the storm, and we will be there as long as we are needed.

As our emergency response teams transition to providing long term recovery, The Salvation Army will continue to support families affected by the floods and to help rebuild communities.

Please keep our teams in your prayers as they travel, the families affected by these eight weather incidences, as well as our first responders helping rebuild these communities.

Financial donations are needed so we can continue serving those who need us the most.
100% of your donations to this disaster goes directly to the impacted areas.

How You Can Help

The best way to help after a disaster is to make a financial donation to the charity of your choice. Monetary contributions also support local economies and ensure that businesses can operate when relief supplies diminish. 100% of donations do go directly to relief efforts.
