The Salvation Army of Troy
One hundred and thirty years ago, the first Salvation Army officers opened a church in Troy offering soup, soap and salvation. In the early 1890s, they were driven out of town by roughnecks. Four years later, citizens of Troy begged for the return of the Army. The years have passed but the needs of the poor are still with us: poverty, hunger, unemployment, addictions. This is why The Salvation Army exists, to provide physical, spiritual, and emotional support to those in need.
Food Pantry
On Tuesdays and Thursdays, the food pantry is open at here at the Troy Corps. An average of 35 people a day show up, where they will receive three days worth of food. Recipients can access the food pantry twice a month.
Fresh Food Distributions
Every Wednesday at the Corps and also sites Troy Housing Authority sites, Martin Luther King Jr. Apartments, Taylor Apartments, Corliss Park and two senior complexes, Kane Apartments and Conway Court. Over 250 families a week take advantage of this opportunity for fresh fruit and vegetables.
Community Dinner
Twice a week on Mondays and Thursdays, a community dinner is served and close to 100 people attend each day. The Salvation Army coordinates their dinner schedule with other feeding programs in Troy so that there is continuous coverage through the days of the week.
Baby Day
Once a month, there's an opportunity for new mothers and babies to share experiences, parenting skills and receive diapers, formula and other baby needs.
