Family of 7 Left Homeless and Jobless Finds Hope and New Beginning
As the anniversary of COVID-19 approaches, we are proud to share a family who defeated the odds.
Tiffany Gayles came to The Salvation Army in August after losing her job and her home. She and her husband have five children and had nowhere to go. They entered a shelter of The Salvation Army and were able to compile new household items thanks to donor monies. Tiffany remained positive and held onto hope. She and her family became members in Pathway of Hope and have been able to rise above.
Tiffany's positive attitude allowed her to persevere and be a true testament to what it means to hold onto hope. Despite a slew of challenges and losses, the Gayles family never gave up. Below is a note we received from Tiffany thanking both The Salvation Army and its donors for helping their family hold onto hope and move forward.
To whom it may concern, 1/29/21
My name is Tiffany Gayles. I just wanted to provide a testimony about how the Pathway of Hope program helped me and my family. During the pandemic many people were being laid off, including me. I was devastated not knowing what was going to come next-if I was going to find another job, how I was going to support my family, pay rent, a car note, and car insurance.
After about a month went by after losing my job, I had exhausted all my savings and didn't know when my unemployment was going to come through. I had no choice but to go to the social services office and ask for help because at this time I had lost my home and became homeless with my husband and five children. My husband lost his job last spring too. We were placed at The Salvation Army where I was introduced to Cheryl, a caseworker with Pathway of Hope. I explained my situation to her about losing my job, then my home, and how I was about to lose my car that I worked so hard to get back in June.
Here it was just September and I was about to lose out on $1,700 investment. I felt that was all I had left. Cheryl assured that she would do everything in her power to help me not to lose my car. After many phone calls and emails to my car insurance place and car dealership the Pathway of Hope program invested in me and my car and I was able to stop the repossession process. I got hired right after that and as soon as schools re-open I will be back working this time as a bus driver. I was so grateful that I personally wanted to thank every donor that donated to the Pathway of Hope program.
Because of your donation I was able to keep my car for me and my children, that I really need for medical appointments and to get to work. She is helping with a couch when we move this week too. I will be forever thankful.
